Lesson 1: What are Collocations & Why Important

Collocations are natural word combinations (e.g., make a decision, not do a decision). They improve fluency and show a wide lexical resource in IELTS. In this lesson, students learn why collocations matter for both Speaking and Writing.

  • Instruction: Read the PDF, watch the video, then try the task.

  • Task Example: Write 3 collocations with the word decision (e.g., make a decision, reach a decision, final decision).

Lesson 2: 7 Types of Collocations

Students are introduced to seven main types: adverb+adjective, adjective+noun, noun+noun, noun+verb, verb+noun, verb+preposition, verb+adverb. Using them makes English natural and precise.

  • Instruction: Study examples in the PDF, Watch lesson, then practice with the task.

  • Task Example: Write one collocation for each type (e.g., deeply concerned, brief introduction, apartment building, data shows, take notes, focus on improving, work hard).

Lesson 3: Common Collocations for IELTS Topics

This lesson applies collocations to frequent IELTS themes like Education, Health, and Technology, helping learners expand vocabulary for exam answers.

  • Instruction: Review the examples, then create your own sentences.

  • Task Example: Write 2 collocations for each topic:

    • Education: access to education, take an exam

    • Health: balanced diet, suffer from stress

    • Technology: use the internet, download a file
